Whipper is napped to give the French their first success in the UltimateBet.com 2000 Guineas since Pennekamp pipped Celtic Swing in a thrilling edition of the Newmarket Classic nine years ago.

Whipper, like Pennekamp, has the right credentials to win a Guineas.

A smart juvenile, the Robert Collet-trained colt has returned better than ever this spring.

He is a classy individual, as he showed when he rounded off his first season with an easy success in a Group Two contest at Maisons-Laffitte.

He returned to the same course for his reappearance earlier this month in the Prix Djebel and bolted up by eight lengths from Red Mo.

The form may not amount to a great deal, but Whipper's performance in the seven-furlong Listed contest could not be faulted.

He has progressed since that race, with his Chantilly-based trainer declaring the horse to be at his peak after he delighted connections in his final piece of work on Tuesday.

Whipper will lack nothing in fitness for his first run over a mile at Headquarters and his pedigree and style of racing suggest the extra distance should not be a problem.

He looks the one they have to beat in the pounds 300,000 feature.

Unbeaten Irish challenger Grey Swallow could provide the biggest threat.

He looked very special with two impressive victories as a juvenile and will come on a ton for his narrow success at Leopardstown on his reappearance.

But his trainer, Dermot Weld, has made no secret of the fact that his charge will be a lot better with another fortnight under his belt and he may have to give best to Whipper this time.

Aidan O'Brien's long-time ante-post favourite One Cool Cat can take minor honours to complete a clean sweep for overseas runners in the first British Classic of the season. …
