Developer Doesn't Expect to Close Winn-Dixie Stores

Equity One Inc., a shopping center developer that owns four Winn-Dixie-anchored centers in Jacksonville, said Tuesday that it does not expect any of its Winn-Dixie locations to close.

The North Miami Beach-based developer owns 16 Winn-Dixie anchored shopping centers overall, and it said that after conversations with representatives of Winn-Dixie Stores Inc., it does not expect any of its centers to be affected by store closings.

Jacksonville-based Winn-Dixie announced Friday that it will close or sell 156 of its 1,078 supermarkets, including 45 in its core market locations. Winn-Dixie has not said yet which stores will close, although it did say only three of its more than 400 stores in Florida will be closed.

The company also announced plans to close or sell several manufacturing and distribution facilities as part of its restructuring plans, but none of those facilities are in Jacksonville.

Winn-Dixie expects to shed about 10,000 jobs as a result of the store and facility cutbacks. But the company hopes to sell some of those operations, giving employees the opportunity to retain their jobs with the new owner. …
