Umbro Poised to Score Big with New England Away Kit

UMBRO kicked off the countdown to its [pounds sterling]200 million float today in the best possible way, by revealing the new away shirt for England's Euro 2004 bid could be the best-selling national kit it has ever made.

Chief executive Peter McGuigan said he was confident the jersey, first donned by the England team in the 1-0 defeat to Sweden in March, would be a sell-out by the time Euro 2004 begins next month.

"There does seems to be a more patriotic feel to the country," McGuigan said. "We are working hard with the FA to make sure we keep the momentum going."

Umbro said the success of the new red away kit was such that turnover to date was "significantly ahead" of last year, when the sportswear firm sold [pounds sterling]310 million of products.

The group expects its shares to start trading on 3 June, days before Euro 2004 kicks off in Portugal. It set the price range for its listing at between 150p and 190p, equal to a market value of between [pounds sterling]177 million-and [pounds sterling]202 million. …
