Freddy shepherd has arranged a high-powered summit with Sir Bobby Robson early next week to try and put Newcastle United back on track.

Everyone connected with United is devastated that the club will not have Champions League football at St James' Park next season.

And United supporters woke up this morning fearing that there would be no European football at all next season following the closing day's games today.

Shepherd is fully aware that some supporters, while eternally grateful for what Sir Bobby has achieved since he came to the club, now think it's time to part company with their manager.

Even though Sir Bobby has a contract for another 12 months, one option is to ask him to leave with dignity once the dust has settled on this season.

The United chairman has to sit down with Robson and listen to what he has to say about the situation.

I know the manager is dismayed by criticism that has come his way from too many quarters even though United were the last British team in Europe and, until Wednesday, still had a chance of being in the Champions League qualifiers next season. …
