Boat Sport Sees a Big Improvement in the Past Week

Boat fishing has seen a vast improvement over previous weeks ( there has even been a few mackerel taken.

The main species has been cod but there have also been ling, whiting, coalfish, a few haddock and even the odd catfish.

Some boats, particularly out of the Tees, report a lot of octopus being taken.

A variety of artificials and fresh baits have all taken fish such as Hoki's, daylights, feathers, plastic squid, Jiggers all either baited or unbaited with mackerel strip, rag, lug, squid, mussel ( in fact everything is working.

The majority of cod taken are averaging around 3-5lb, although there have been better fish taken.

The Tyne private boat Slinky Kate had a good number of cod, best 8lb. The Gypsy, also out of the Tyne, had a good catch with Micky Thompson taking the best fish, a cod of 17lb.

Davy Bolam's boat, the Balansee, out of the Royal Quays, North Shields, had 65 fish aboard, best 20lb. The Sunderland charter boat Delta Barbara had cod to 9lb and a few ling with the best catches and fish being taken on flowing traces with crab or rag. …
