Deported Husband Returning to His Family

A deported stepdad is returning to his beloved family on Teesside after immigration officials finally overturned their decision.

Billingham mum Sharon Purewal hopes to be reunited with husband Manjit Singh within weeks.

"All I can think about is seeing him again," said a tearful Mrs Purewal.

"After all the time he has been away we finally have something to look forward to. We knew we would win and get him back."

Manjit, who is known as Gogi, arrived from India in 1997.

The couple married five years ago and Gogi, 46, became a loving stepfather to Michael, 16, Amy, 15, and Jade, 12. He was sent home to India in September 2002 when his claims for political asylum were rejected, despite having a job.

Mrs Purewal, 36, who has been campaigning non-stop for her husband's return, continued: "Gogi couldn't believe it when he found out he was coming home. He kept asking me to repeat it.

"He called this morning to talk to the children. …
