Police Briefs; Man Charged in 2 Burglaries

The first burglary April 12 netted the burglar a BB gun and a jar of money from an apartment at 7524 Southside Blvd.

The second May 3 included a digital camera stolen from another apartment at 10023 Belle Rive Blvd. But in this case, a neighbor saw a car leave and got its license number.

Now police have a 25-year-old Southside man under arrest on burglary charges, accusing him of breaking into the two apartments, police said.

The first burglary occurred between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. April 12 when someone forced open the front door. Police searched pawn shops for the stolen gun, but didn't find it. But when someone broke into the second apartment on Belle Rive Boulevard earlier this month, the license plate seen by a neighbor led police to question a Southside man May 12, police said. Police said a second man is being sought in the case, and more burglaries may become involved in the investigation.

Following are the crimes and other incidents reported recently on the Southside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office:

-- Filing nails got a 27-year-old Mandarin woman arrested May 12 on a charge of practicing cosmetology without a license. She was accused of working as a nail technician at a salon at 1567 University Blvd. W. without a state license, police said.

Two detectives saw the woman working as a nail technician at the business on April 22 while searching for a suspect in another case, police said. When they spoke to her, they learned she didn't have a license. They later confirmed that with state officials and arrested her at 3 p.m. May 12 as she was giving a customer a manicure, police said.
