STATE'S POLICE GEAR UP FOR HOLIDAY SEAT BELT CAMPAIGN

Northeast Florida law enforcement agencies are joining a statewide effort to make seat belt safety an issue for the Memorial Day weekend.

The Click It or Ticket campaign will be kicked off locally at 10 a.m. Monday at Alltel Stadium. Among those scheduled to attend are Sheriff John Rutherford, members of the Florida Highway Patrol, Shands Jacksonville trauma surgeon Merin Schinco and Jaguars cornerback Kiwaukee Thomas.

Police in Florida will join more than 13,000 law enforcement agencies cutting no slack on seat belt usage as part of the campaign, which starts Monday and continues through Thursday, June 6.

FIREARMS SAFETY PROGRAM OFFERS 2,600 FREE GUN LOCKS

A total of 2,600 free gun locks will be distributed in Jacksonville through Project ChildSafe, a nationwide firearms safety education and gun lock program.
