Julie Peasgood, 47, was born in Cleethorpes and raised in Grimsby, Lincolnshire.

She's best known for her acting work in such TV series and films as The Romantic Englishwoman, First Born, Brookside, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and Simisola. She has also presented several shows, most recently UKTV Style's Turf Wars and UKTV Gold's Good Food Live. Julie's daughter is 22-year-old actress Kate McEnery. She lives in Surrey with her actor husband Patrick Pearson.

WHAT ITEM DO YOU PRIZE MOST IN YOUR HOME AND WHY?

"My bed. It's a restored Victorian, curly iron number. I invested in a good mattress, and it's worth its weight in gold. It's not too fussy, but makes a nice statement. I love old beds. It's really high as well."

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE HOME AND WHY?

"Our kitchen. We live in a small cottage, but people are surprised when they come here because the kitchen is really big. We knocked through some walls and made it large and spacious. It's light and warm as well. Usually I gravitate towards small and cosy, so the kitchen is rather different to that, and that's why I love it."

IF YOUR HOME WAS BURNING DOWN WHAT WOULD YOU RESCUE AND WHY?

"Believe it or not, my Gohonzon, which is my Buddhist scroll that I chant to every day. It's a scroll of paper which sounds very simple, but it's what it means that's important."

WHO DO YOU LIVE WITH?

"My husband Patrick. Sadly Kate has her own place now, so it's just the two of us. She's had it for a while, so it isn't strange not having her here any more. I've kept her bedroom just as it was though, so she can come and bunk down with us any time she wants."

WHAT'S THE MOST UNUSUAL FEATURE IN YOUR HOUSE?

"My huge airing cupboard. That betrays my northern roots doesn't it! It's enormous and dries everything within hours. I don't know what I'd do without it. I know that sounds incredibly boring, but I just love it."
