It grieves me to read that our shipyard union represen-tatives are turning to Defence Minister Geoff Hoon for help.

The awful truth is he will make promises but, in actual fact, he will do nothing, because, like our Prime Minister and all of our Government ministers, he is ruled by what Brussels says and Brussels has informed our Government some time ago that all work of a defence nature must be shared.

That is why a large portion of the work on the two new aircraft carriers has been awarded to a French firm. It truly disgusts me that this is the case. British warships should be built in Britain by British workers but the Diddy Men of the European Parliament tell our Government that this idea must be scrapped, and so our very own Diddy Men say `yes sir! Yes sir! Three bags full sir'!

Geoff Hoon knows this, and there is nothing he can do about it, or try to do about it. …
