Ashington take on bottom-of-the-table Whickham tomorrow as they bid to keep the heat on NTSL leaders Tynedale.

Ashington are currently in second place in Division A1, 14 points behind Tynedale.

The Northumberland side have lost just once in eight games so far ( against Tynedale ( while Whickham have yet to clock up their first victory of the season.

Ashington secretary Geoff Prudhoe said: "We are pleased with our start but we have to keep putting the pressure on Tynedale and hope that they drop points.

"They are the only side to have beaten us so far this season and we still have another game against them to play, so we will have a chance to return the favour.

"In the meantime, we have been playing well and scoring quite a few runs so we need to continue winning.

"We beat Lintz last weekend and we play Whickham tomorrow. Whickham haven't won in the league yet and I hope the situation is still the same on Monday, but it certainly won't be an easy match. …
