Playful Michael Lynn is set to grow into a real computer whiz, thanks to the Chronicle's Sunshine Fund.

Five-year-old Michael, from North Shields, suffers from a severe form of autism, making it difficult for his mum, Sandy, to look after him.

And after teachers at his school recommended she got a computer to help him learn at home, she contacted the Sunshine Fund.

Now the charity, which helps sick and disabled children across the region, has come to the rescue.

Sandy, 30, a full-time mum, said: "Michael's teachers said he responded well to computers at school and that it would be a good idea to get one for home.

"I was going to get one for Christmas but it was going to take a lot of saving.

"I was over the moon when we got the computer and we have got a proper desk for it.

"The other day he turned it on without me knowing. It gave me the fright of my life, I think he knows more about computers than I do."

Michael attends Ashleigh School in North Shields. …
