The cheers echoed across Teesside as fans celebrated England's storming performance to reach the quarter-finals of Euro 2004.

Pubs were packed with cheering supporters dressed in red and white as Rooney and Co put four past Croatia.

The fans had remained positive after Croatia scored first and the match united supporters from different parts of the country as they all cheered together in Teesside's pubs.

Emma Callcutt from Brotton watched the match in the Dickens Inn in Middlesbrough, with friends Chris Relph and Lisa Coleman from Coulby Newham and Andrea Tweedy and Gavin Lambert of Sunderland.

"International football always brings everyone together and people in Middlesbrough love football anyway. We can definitely go all the way."

Also watching in the Dickens Inn were friends Michael Proud and Craig Daniel of Normanby.

Michael described the match as "unbelievable" and "awesome".
