Dazzling Bay has been in cracking form of late and Tim Easterby's four-year-old looks well worth the nap vote when he runs in the Northern Rock Gosforth Park Cup (7.25) at Newcastle tomorrow night.

The Malton trainer landed a Group One prize at Royal Ascot last week when Fayr Jag won the Golden Jubilee Stakes and with Somnus also in the yard, Easterby is particularly strong in the sprint division.

Normally it would be a worry that the progressive Dazzling Bay has put in all his best work at six furlongs, but he shows such speed that the drop down to a stiff five should not be too much of an inconvenience.

Dazzling Bay's last two runs have been real eyecatchers, as he looked all over the winner at York until he swerved right and threw away a decisive advantage, and followed that up with a fifth in the Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot.

Newmarket also stages an evening meeting, and Topkamp looks to have been presented with a first-rate opportunity in the vibefm.co.uk Fillies' Conditions Stakes (8.40) over six furlongs.

Michael Bell's four-year-old has not won for over a year, but she has been mixing it in much better company than this and should appreciate the opportunity to get her head in front in a lower grade. …
