A hard-hitting scheme to ban shoplifters from stores is being introduced at Teesside Park.

Security officials fear thieves may begin targeting stores at the retail park after they were banned from about 60 stores in Middlesbrough under the Exclusion Notice Scheme.

A dozen big-name stores at Teesside Park want exclusion notices on a hardcore of prolific crooks.

The notices have been successful in banning more than 30 thieves from stores in Middlesbrough. Any who re-enter stores will be classed as trespassers and can be arrested.

Alex Norris, Teesside Park's security boss, said: "I came here as security manager two months ago and I wanted to get some sort of scheme up and running to tackle shoplifting.

"We think thieves banned from stores in Middlesbrough will start coming here, but now they will be excluded from coming into shops here.

"The businesses are really excited and keen to get this scheme off the ground. …
