[Pounds Sterling]30m Gerrard: I'm Staying at Liverpool; England Star's U-Turn over Chelsea Transfer

STEVEN GERRARD today sensationally announced he is staying at Liverpool.
The England star's decision comes after weeks of speculation that he was on the verge of a [pounds sterling]30million move to Chelsea.
But it emerged today that the Liverpool captain had handed in a written transfer request to the Anfield club last week after making it clear that he was unhappy at the team's lack of success, despite signing a new four-year deal last November.
Arsenal and Manchester United were also interested in the midfielder and it looked almost certain he would leave, with Chelsea the favourites.
However, after returning from Portugal, and following conversations with his family and friends, he withdrew his transfer request.
It is understood that Gerrard and his family, who had initially backed the move, began to have strong reservations over the decision.
Chelsea had already admitted they would be interested in signing Gerrard if he were to become available.
Sir Alex Ferguson also publicly called Gerrard the "new Roy Keane" and admitted his interest. Arsenal also enquired despite their large financial commitments to their new stadium at Ashburton Grove. …
