Baldwin and Trinity Church Will Host July Fourth Bashes

The Fourth of July will be celebrated on the Westside this year with a bang, a song and a hot dog or two.

Actually, there will be lots more on the bill when Trinity Baptist Church and the town of Baldwin stage separate festivals that are expected to attract thousands of people.

Trinity's free Family Freedom Festival will start at 5 p.m. Saturday at 800 Hammond Blvd.

"Last year, we had 2,100 attend, and this year we're hoping for quite a bit more," said Gary Judd, Trinity's director of operations.

The event will feature a rock-climbing wall, concessions and inflatable play areas. The Gold City Quartet of Gadsden, Ala., will be in concert at 6 p.m. while a tribute to the armed forces, complete with flag ceremony, music and color guard, will get under way at 7.

Attendees can pitch their lawn chair or blanket and watch the fireworks at 8.

Judd said Trinity started the festival four years ago as a way of giving families an opportunity to honor the military, demonstrate their patriotism and express their Christian heritage. …
