Hijacking Victim Identifies Man at Pool as Assailant

A man who was carjacked at gunpoint last week told police he recognized one of his five assailants at a Jacksonville pool Tuesday, leading to an arrest.

Derek Rashad Johnson, 18, of the 1900 block of West 14th Street, faces a charge of carjacking with a deadly weapon, according to authorities. He was being held Wednesday without bail.

Four other carjacking suspects remain at large.

The incident happened June 24. The assailants approached the victim's 2004 Pontiac Sunfire in the 4600 block of Moncrief Road and put a gun to his face, taking the vehicle, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report. The car was found a few blocks away the next day.

Police arrested Johnson after finding him sitting by the pool.
