Create Right Ambience with Heavenly Scents

There was a time when room sprays and scents were only used by old ladies and people with lots of dogs. The scents were, frankly, unsubtle and more reminiscent of loo cleaners.

But in recent years room fragrances have transformed as we realise that scent can have just as much impact in the home as lighting, texture and colour.

After all, we wear perfume to create moods and allure, so our rooms can `wear' fragrances to conjure different effects from romantic, soothing and tranquil to stimulating.

Estate agents cottoned on to the power of pong a long time ago, advising home sellers to woo buyers with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee or the comforting smell of vanilla essence. Undoubtedly nice scents make us feel happy, and sitting in a room that's delicately perfumed, say with the sweet smell of tea roses, isn't just relaxing but adds to the impression that the home is a well-cared-for sanctuary.

They are just as effective in summer as in winter, can banish odours such as tobacco smoke, and even banish the blues if the summer weather is being traditionally temperamental. …
