Woman Survives Push from Car; Man Jailed after Attack on I-295

A 25-year-old Southside woman was punched, kicked and choked with a leather belt before she was thrown out of a moving car Monday afternoon on Interstate 295 in Mandarin, police said.

Now a 35-year-old Northside man is under arrest on a charge of aggravated battery, after the woman who was attacked ended up hospitalized with broken bones, cuts and a head injury, police said.

Police said problems started around noon, when a man and woman in a white 2001 Chevrolet started arguing on Philips Highway. The man slapped the woman in the face, before pulling off the road, running around to the passenger side and punching and kicking her even after she fell to the floor, police said. Witnesses started running to the car to help, but the man jumped back in the car and drove off.

The woman called police three times on her cellular telephone before the man wrapped a leather belt around her neck as they got onto I-295 and told her, "I'm going to kill you," according to the police report. …
