Olivier Bernard fears for his Newcastle United future unless he is offered a new contract soon.

The left-back is entering the final year of his present deal ( and despite talk of a new contract 12 months ago, nothing is yet on the table.

Bernard quit the Magpies once before in a contractual dispute when he joined West Ham two years ago only to be forced to return to St James' Park.

And he is again frustrated at the lack of progress on a new deal despite his own progress on the pitch.

Now Bernard, one of Newcastle's most improved players over the past two years, insists he will have to consider his future in December should contract talks remain on hold.

"I'm quite disappointed ( I will probably have to think about something else soon," said Bernard."

"In December, if there is no change, I will have to think about my future. I might have to leave in the summer but anything can happen before then.

"This is my final year so I will play it and if I don't sign a new contract I will have to leave. Am I surprised? Yes and no.

"I love Newcastle and I love the city. I started my career up here and it would be really difficult to leave Newcastle but sometimes you have to do things you don't want. …
