An eight-year-old Stockton schoolgirl has grown more than 100 plants from seeds donated by Prince Charles from his Highgrove home nursery - with a little help from the Evening Gazette.

Brownie Holly Stoves, of Hartburn, sold many plants to raise church funds at the weekend at Greens Lane Methodist Church summer fair at Hartburn.

The seeds were bought by dad Andrew for pounds 5, as part of a batch sent by the Prince to Dot Buckingham, 66, of Charltons, in April. He kindly made the offer to assist the village's Northumbria in Bloom efforts.

Volunteer Dot wanted to give a boost to the village's annual floral effort in the competition, which is judged regionally in July. So she wrote a letter to Prince Charles, a keen horticulturalist, asking if he could aid Charltons' effort in any way.

Dot was surprised to receive not only a letter from the Prince, but six packets of his own flower seeds from his rural estate at Highgrove House.

Now Holly has had magnificent success with her green-fingered efforts. …
