At Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Monday 19th July 2004, Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly Primestock sale. A larger show of 134 prime cattle and prime bulls with better quality prime cattle being in great demand. Messrs Dodd of West View sold five Continental cross bullocks and heifers to average 123.5p which topped at 133.5p for a Limousin cross heifer purchased by Bowland Foods. Messrs Dodd also sold a Belgian Blue cross bullock for 129.5p purchased by Mr Jim Woodhead. Messrs Hetherington of Old Hall Farm sold four Continental cross bullocks to average 120.8p and pounds 862 which topped at 129.5p (x2) for a Blonde and Limousin cross purchased by Mr Jim Woodhead. Mr Hodgson Hird of West End Farm sold three Limousin cross heifers to average 121.8p with the top price of 129.5p purchased by Bowland Foods. Messrs Story of Jacksonrigg sold a good run of bullocks which topped at 128.5p purchased by Mr Jim Woodhead. Messrs Maw of Wintershields sold the top priced Belgian Blue cross heifer for 125.5p purchased by Mr Maurice Wharton. Messrs Henderson of Aiket Gate run of heifers topped at 123.5p purchased by Bowland Foods. Messrs Dodd of West View sold the top priced bullock 770kg 120.5p pounds 927.85 purchased by Mr Mike Atkinson.

Leading bullock prices (all crosses) :- Belgian Blue, 129.5p West View. Blonde, 129.5p Old Hall Farm. Limousin, 129.5p Old Hall Farm, 128.5p, 121.5p Jacksonrigg, 120.5p, 118.5p West View, 115.5p Parton Farm, 114.5p Low Meathop Farm. Charolais, 115.5p Jacksonrigg.

Leading prices per head (all crosses):- Limousin, pounds 928 West View, pounds 881 Old Hall Farm. Blonde, pounds 881 Old Hall Farm. Charolais, pounds 872 Old Hall Farm.

A plainer show of 80 prime bulls were presented to the usual keen ring side of buyers with good bulls in short supply. Mr Cleasby of Linden Farm sold three Charolais cross bulls to average 118.2p which topped at 121.5p and 117.5p purchased by Mr Frank Clarkson on behalf of Seddon & Co and Northern Counties. Messrs Maw of Wintershields sold the top priced Belgian Blue cross for 117.5p purchased by Mr Mike Atkinson. Messrs Fawkes & Son of Welton Farm sold a Belgian blue cross for 116.5p purchased by Mr Frank Clarkson on behalf of Seddon & Co. Messrs Grix & Partners sold seven 750kg bulls to average 106.7p which topped at 114.5p for a Limousin cross purchased by Mr Mike Atkinson. Messrs Coulthard of Justicetown sold a Belgian Blue cross bull for 114.5p purchased by Seddon & Co. Mr Illingworth of Howgillside sold the top priced Limousin bull for 970kg 103. …
