Aussie Peter Lonard hopes to celebrate his first European Tour title tomorrow ( thanks to his American good life.

The 37-year-old from Sydney took a two-stroke lead into today's third round of the Nissan Irish Open at the County Louth club in Baltray.

And while he has not won in his previous 158 starts on the circuit, the way he has established himself on the US Tour these past three seasons can only boost his confidence for the final 36 holes.

After successfully negotiating their qualifying school in 2001, Lonard earned over a $1m in his rookie year and repeated that last year, $390,000 of it coming when he reached the semi-finals of the World Matchplay Championship in California.

"I live in Orlando, I have a course where I live and on my weeks off now I get up, go to the gym, hit balls for two hours, jump in the pool, go and do some chipping and putting, jump in the pool, get something to eat and then go and play nine holes in the cart.

"When you do that continuously I'm far more prepared when I go to play. …
