When will the owners of large dogs realise that their pets, no matter how friendly, can be a danger to other people unless properly controlled?

My wife and I were having a pleasant walk in Havannah Nature Reserve, near Dinnington, on Monday. As we passed the larger pond, a large black Labrador splashing about in the water tore towards us at high speed and slammed in to my wife's left leg before continuing its high speed dash back to its owners and then off to other persons in the vicinity.

By the time we arrived back home, my wife was in great pain and barely able to walk. A 40lb, projectile at 15 to 20mph can do considerable damage to any leg, but one slowly recovering from knee replacement surgery is even more at risk. We can only hope and pray there has been no damage to the surgeon's work but certainly there has been some to the surrounding tissue. …
