'Don't Sack Sven over Private Life'

England assistant coach Tord Grip has called on the Football Association to make a swift decision over the future of manager Sven-Goran Eriksson - and for footballing reasons.

The FA are investigating how a press release stating that Eriksson did not have an affair with a female secretary was issued last week when subsequent revelations have proved it to be true.

Eriksson, in line with his policy of never commenting on his private life, claims he neither confirmed nor denied that he had an affair with Faria Alam.

Grip is not impressed with the decision to hold an inquiry and feels that if the FA no longer want Eriksson at the helm they should just say so.

He said: "They must go out and tell him and be very straight and say, 'OK, you should not be here any longer'.

"They should do that but not for something done wrong in his private life but for something done wrong with the national team."

The FA board will now meet to look at the evidence and discuss Eriksson's future at a meeting next Thursday. …
