McLaren Is Aiming to Make His Mark

Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren wants to make his mark in the Barclays Premiership this season after ending his club's 128-year wait for a trophy.

McClaren became the first Boro manager in history to take a major prize back to Teesside when his side lifted the Carling Cup back in February.

The buzz from that success is still echoing around the Riverside Stadium, but now he is desperate to harness that and direct it into the new league campaign.

Having made Bolo Zenden his fifth signing of the summer, McClaren is eagerly awaiting the start of a 38-game campaign which he believes will reveal the true quality of his new-look squad.

He said: "It is how well you do in the league that is an indicator of how well you are doing as a football club, and we want to get better this year.

"It was exciting last year winning a cup and we want more occasions like we had last year at Cardiff.

"But the bread and butter is the league and the consistency over 38 games. …
