SCHOOL ZONE; Swimming Pen Elementary Dedicated Sunday

Clay County's newest public school, Swimming Pen Creek Elementary, will be dedicated at 2 p.m. Sunday. The school is at 1630 Woodpecker Lane in Middleburg, off County Road 220 west of Swimming Pen Creek and east of Orange Park South. With Principal Lenore Paulk at the helm, the school is the county's 21st elementary school and one of 32 schools to open Monday for the 2004-05 year. The public is invited to the dedication ceremony.

CHALLENGE ACADEMY

A book drive for the Florida Youth Challenge Academy at Camp Blanding runs through Aug. 31. "Operation: Turn the Page" is sponsored by Leadership Clay, a program of the Clay County Chamber of Commerce. Donations of books and magazines for youth ages 16 and up may be dropped off at the following locations: Clay County Habitat for Humanity, 1707 Blanding Blvd., Middleburg; Clay County Chamber of Commerce, 1734 Kingsley Ave., Orange Park; and Idea Staffing, 1279 Kingsley Ave., Suite 113, Orange Park. Open houses have been scheduled for Clay County public schools, which reopen Monday. Open houses will be held Thursday at the high schools, Aug. 26 at the junior high schools. Here are the other schedules that have been announced:

Charles E. Bennett Elementary: Grades 5 and 6, 6-7:30 p.m. Aug. 16; grades 1 and 2, 6-7:30 p.m. Aug. 17; grades 3 and 4, 6-7:30 p.m., Aug. 23; pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, 6-7:30 p.m. Aug. 24.

Clay Hill Elementary: Grade 6, 6:30-8 p.m. Aug. 17; kindergarten and grade 2, 6:30-8 p.m., Aug. 24; grades 3 and 5, 6:30-8 p.m., Aug. 26.

Doctors Inlet Elementary: Pre-kindergarten to grade 2, 7 p.m., Aug. 16; grades 3 to 6, 7 p.m. Aug. 17.

Fleming Island Elementary: Kindergarten, 6-7 p.m. Aug. 16; grade 3, 6-7 p.m., Aug. 17; grade 6, 7-8 p.m. Aug. 17; grade 2, 6-7 p.m. Aug. 19; grade 5, 7-8 p.m. Aug. 19; grade 1, 6-7 p.m. Aug. 24; grade 4, 7-8 p.m. Aug. 24; ESE, 6-7 p.m. Aug. 31.
