Northumberland's Minor Counties Eastern Division title hopes suffered a potentially fatal blow when the final day of the the championship game at Norfolk was washed out without a ball being bowled.

Norfolk entered the final day with a lead of 192 with eight wickets in hand, but heavy rain left the Horsford ground in Norwich waterlogged.

Northumberland will go into their final match ( at home to Hertfordshire ( 21 points behind leaders Bedfordshire with 24 points top play for.

Bedfordshire picked up eight points from their rain-affected draw against another high-flying side, Buckinghamshire, yesterday while Northumberland had to settle for nine points at Norfolk.

"Mathematically several sides still have a chance of finishing top going into the final game," said Northumberland captain Phil Nicholson. "Bedfordshire are obviously favourites but we'll have to go for a maximum points haul against Hertfordshire at Jesmond and see what happens."

The MCCA Knockout Trophy however will represent a more realistic opportunity for silverware and the county recall Benwell Hill seamer Martin Pollard and off spinner Lee Crozier for Sunday's semi-final trip to Wiltshire.
