Life Is Rosy as Wenger Is Boosted by Gilberto

THE only blot on an otherwise perfect start to Arsenal's defence of their title threatened to come from the injury to Gilberto Silva in yesterday's 4-1 win at Everton.

But even that was removed today with the news that the Brazilian World Cup star will be fit for next Sunday's Premiership clash with Middlesbrough at Highbury.

Gilberto was taken off in the second half of the victory at Goodison Park yesterday, clutching his back. With skipper Patrick Vieira unlikely to be fit until the game at Norwich on 28 August because of a thigh injury and Edu still recovering from his exertions for Brazil in the Copa America, manager Arsene Wenger was concerned that Gilberto stayed fit - and it duly emerged he had suffered only a back spasm.

Even without Vieira and Sol Campbell, the Gunners looked a class act and will be even more united following Vieira's decision to stay - one that delighted Robert Pires. …
