Who advises you on your investments? Is it a man or a woman?

If you have a female adviser, are you happy with the performance of your portfolio?

You should be, if a recent survey by financial website Digitalook.com is anything to go by.

They examined 100,000 share portfolios and looked at the performance achieved during the year to the end of last July.

Over a period when the Financial Times All Share Index grew by 7pc, portfolios run by women achieved growth of more than 10pc. Those run by men, in contrast, managed to return only 6pc on the money invested.

Quite what methodology was used is not clear to me at this stage, but it contrasts with a financial world that is still male-dominated.

I wonder what those clearly accomplished female stock pickers would make of the market at present. Looking at some performance figures for unit trusts over the past six months, it confirmed what I really knew already ( that the market has gone precisely nowhere over that period. …
