We've all done it ( nervously entering a fancy dress shop knowing you run the risk of making a complete prat of yourself.

I remember a particular occasion walking round to my local dressed as a Diddyman, desperately hoping I wasn't the hapless victim of a prank by my mates, who were going to be assembled there in their more regular attire.

The parade of bizarrely-adorned people making their way through Newcastle to mark fancy dress shop Dandy's move from Pink Lane to a new store in Scotswood Road made for great pictures.

Our coverage prompted praise from Lorna Evans, who handles the publicity for the shop, for Chron industrial reporter Gayle Tomlinson and for photographer Trevor Craig.

A SMALL number of our readers have written in asking us to justify a price increase for the Chron to 35p.

We announced the increase in Monday's paper, unlike with almost every other product we all buy regularly, which would become more expensive without any publicity.

Unfortunately, the cost of everything rises and newspapers are no different.

Our correspondents point out that the increase is above the rate of inflation but our cover price compares well with most other goods over the past 30 years, often rising less than inflation.
