A generous Teesside community has been thanked for donating to tributes for a courageous teenager who died from a rare cancer.

When friends learned of the death of 13-year-old Danny Pears, they took to the streets asking for donations, raising more than pounds 600.

The teenager died at the end of last month at his home on Chippenham Road, Easterside, after battling Ewings Sarcoma, a form of bone cancer.

People in his community raised pounds 1,000 and held a street party for Danny following his diagnosis last year.

His neighbour Nickie Nolan, 36, decided to launch another collection after she heard the heartbreaking news that he had lost his fight for life.

She went door to door with some of Danny's school friends, including her daughter Danielle Dryden.

She said: "The kids walked the full length of Easterside with me to raise the money.

"People gave money who had never heard of him. We had old ladies giving us 50p. …
