It's hard to believe your eyes when the car turns the corner into Harome near Helmsley.

There's a pub with a thatched roof and across the road, the prettiest corner shop you are ever likely to see.

What's more, outside are those rustic baskets of food you find on holiday.

In Tuscany or some corner of Provence.

Yet this is all in North Yorkshire.

The shop, a deli really, is opposite a foodie's idea of heaven, The Star at Harome ( which as it happens, has a Michelin star.

It is probably one of the most talked about pub restaurants in North Yorkshire and is pretty used by now to winning accolades nationwide.

Bought by local lad Andrew and wife Jacquie Perns in 1996, they set about making an unrivalled reputation using local, fresh ingredients.

Then customers began to ask "Where can you buy them?"

Now you can buy the luscious stuff across the road in The Corner Shop a once derelict cottage.

Wonderfully creamy chocolate truffles from France, so full of gourmet goodness they cost a packet. …
