Police Briefs; Man Waiting for Payment Winds Up Being Robbed

The 26-year-old man said all he was doing early Aug. 21 when he stepped outside his home in the 4700 block of Goshawk Drive North, was waiting for a friend to come by and purchase his custom wheels.

He ended up being robbed after three men pulled up at 1:45 a.m., marched him around his home at gunpoint and stole jewelry and about $700 in cash from him and a friend asleep inside, while his parents slept through the home invasion, police said.

Two men were arrested at 3:36 the same morning on charges of home-invasion robbery, after police followed a car matching the one involved in the earlier robbery onto Bay Center Drive and found them hiding in a Dumpster at 7875 Bayberry Road, police said.

The victim told police he was waiting for a friend to visit and pay him for the wheels when a white Chevrolet Lumina with gray trim rolled up and three men got out, guns pointed at him as one said "Give it up," according to the police report.

The trio told him to be quiet and walked him to the back of his home and into a bedroom, where they ordered him to hand over his silver watch and necklace and money. The intruders grabbed two cellular telephones and keys before they marched into a sleeping woman's bedroom and pointed guns at her, although nothing was taken. The first victim's parents were asleep in a nearby bedroom, but told police they heard nothing until the gunmen slammed a door as they fled.

A half-hour later, officers patrolling Philips Highway saw a white Chevrolet Lumina with four people aboard turn east on Bay Center Drive and followed it into a business complex. Four men bailed out, one pulling a weapon from his waistband as he ran, another with a silver gun in his hand, police said. More officers and a police dog were called in to search the business park and found two hiding in a Dumpster, as well as a gun in the abandoned car. …
