Last week: First game of the season for both teams.

Last meeting: The Bulldogs beat the Eagles 29-7.

Story line: In the season opener for both teams, fans of either team will not be able to figure out much about the respective teams. Georgia Southern is one of the top teams Division I-AA, but would, and will, be handled by the Bulldogs third team. This is little more than a preseason game for the Bulldogs, whose season really starts next week against South Carolina.

GEORGIA TECH

Records: Georgia Tech is 0-0, Samford is 1-0.

Last week: First game for Yellow Jackets. The Bulldogs beat West Georgia 30-24.

Last meeting: Tech won 43-0 on Oct. 13, 1945 in what was Bobby Dodd's first season with the Yellow Jackets.

Story line: The Yellow Jackets are 5-0 all-time against Samford, but all those game came before 1945, when Samford was called Howard. The Yellow Jackets secondary could get an early test as Samford returns the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year in wide receiver Efrem Hill. Samford quarterback Ray Nelson, who passed for 2,759 yards and 23 touchdowns last fall, threw five touchdowns against West Alabama, three of them to Hill, who had 15 touchdown catches in 2003.
