Woman Is Beaten with Iron Bar

The daughter of a community leader on a troubled Teesside estate is in intensive care today after being savagely beaten with an iron bar.

Vicky Tuffs, 23, suffered a fractured skull in the attack outside her home in Argyle Street, Grangetown, about 9.30pm last night.

"The thugs hit her over the head with an iron bar," dad Paul Tuffs said today.

"My younger daughter came home from work and these lads were shouting threats at her and then threw a big metal disc at her car.

"Vicky went out and there was a bit of an argument between them. One of the lads said he was going to hit her, then hit her with the bar."

Police today confirmed two youths aged 15 and 17 are being questioned in connection with the incident.

Mr Tuffs, chairman of Grangetown Residents Association, recently spoke to the Gazette of his fear that the thugs were in control of the area.

He said yobs had been starting fires in unoccupied houses and had started assembling makeshift guns to fire metal pieces at people's windows. …
