Police Identify Man Killed in Home Invasion Attempt

The man who was shot and killed during an attempted home invasion robbery in Clay County last week has been identified as 21-year-old Obryan Crawford.

Crawford, of Orange Park, was one of four suspects involved and was a cousin of one of two men arrested in the case, said Mary Justino, spokeswoman for the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

Being held in the Clay County Jail are 28-year-old Marcus D. Crawford and 20-year-old James E. Whitfield, both of Orange Park. They are charged with attempted home invasion robbery and felony murder.

The Sheriff's Office was notified about the incident at 10:35 p.m., Aug. 25 by a 911 call about shots being fired in the 300 block of Blairmore Boulevard, which is east of Blanding Boulevard in the Orange Park area. Three armed men had accosted a man outside the home and forced him inside, with guns drawn. Some of the four men who were playing cards inside responded with gunfire. …
