Golden Boy Mark Is Too Tired to Race in Belgium

MARK LEWIS-FRANCIS may take a break for the rest of the season after pulling out of a meeting in Brussels tonight because of tiredness.

Lewis-Francis, who won gold as part of the 4x100metres relay team in Athens last week, will not compete in tonight's Golden League meeting in Belgium.

The former world junior 100m champion, who anchored Team GB to their sensational and unexpected victory ahead of the United States last Saturday, is instead resting.

His manager, Ricky Simms, said: "Mark originally planned to run in Brussels, but he has had a massive programme of engagements since returning home and feels he wouldn't be anywhere near his best. I wouldn't be surprised if he called it a day for the rest of the season. He's also withdrawn from Rieti, Italy on Sunday and for the moment there's nothing planned."

After Brussels and Rieti, the only major meetings remaining on the European circuit take place in Berlin on 12 September and in Monaco the following weekend, when the World Athletics Final will be staged. …
