Use Colours to Create Indian Summer

Forget the rain, forget the gloom. Keep those fingers crossed that this week's sunny spells could be the forerunner of a much-needed Indian summer.

But even if the sun refuses to shine, why not create your own Indian summer inside our homes, where we are safe from downpours.

Indian-influenced interiors are enough to turn up the heat in any cold climate. The flamboyant materials, opulent colours and stunning designs are just some of the elements that when combined together make up a truly beautiful style that can turn your home global.

You'll find that many authentic Indian textiles, even in this age of mass production, are still laboriously sewn, dyed, woven and embroidered by hand. This only adds to their beauty, knowing that the skills that go into producing these materials are preserved by being passed down through generations.

Indian fabrics are bold and in-your-face so they need a home in which they will be embraced. That doesn't necessarily mean you have to have an all-out colour rich home but just one which can take a few bright splashes.

These wonderful hues will sit perfectly alongside a very Moorish-inspired home filled with royal blues and saffron yellows but the beauty of Sari silks is you can drape them over a bed in a completely white room and they won't look out of place.

Perhaps they will look even more stunning in a stark environment which allows them to take centre stage.

Colours are extremely important in this look, and when I say colours I mean colours.

The bolder the better, vibrant pinks and yellows sit comfortably with ruby reds and emerald greens ( the old adage of red and green should never be seen doesn't hold any sway here, it's a melting pot full to the brim with every shade imaginable.

It's not only the colours that ensure that every inch of these fabrics are dazzling it's also the embellishments on them. …
