Graeme Souness wasted no time in making his mark as Newcastle manager after ordering United's players in for extra training yesterday.

The Magpies' victorious first- team squad was afforded little opportunity to celebrate Saturday's first win of the season ( a performance their new boss watched from the stands.

And Souness told his new players to expect more of the same as he seeks to make Sunday sessions a regular feature of his tenure on Tyneside.

With Newcastle's opening Uefa Cup tie of the season just four days away it is hardly a surprise that one of the most meticulous coaches in British football wants to spend as much time as possible with his United squad.

Thursday's clash against Bnei Sakhnin at St James's Park precedes a potentially tough trip to Souness' former club Southampton and Sir Bobby Robson's successor is determined to make a winning start with the Magpies.

Renowned for his discipline, the former Blackburn boss has already made it clear he will not stand for anything less than 100pc commitment to the Newcastle cause. …
