For the first time in five weeks, the Jaguars season opener against the Buffalo Bills will be televised Sunday without a significant event or show pulling away a portion of its audience.

Jacksonville's first three preseason games went head-to-head with the Olympic coverage on NBC, resulting in three sub-par ratings for the Jaguars of 16.6, 16.9 and 17.7. But the marks for the Jaguars' final preseason game with New England on Thursday, Sept. 2 received an even stiffer challenge when much of Jacksonville was tuned to local coverage of Hurricane Frances. That resulted in a 12.1 rating, an all-time low for a Jaguars telecast.

A year ago, the Jaguars 10 TV games (eight road, two home contests) had a 25.4 rating, 45 share -- a shade below the previous season, which had a 25.9 rating with a 42 share.

The final two episodes of the NFL Network series, Inside Training Camp: Jaguars Summer, will run back-to-back on Saturday from 5-7 p.m. (WAWS, TV-30). Initial interest in the show was high but has faded. Jaguars receiver Jimmy Smith praised the production, but was less enthusiastic about some of the content.

"I thought they would show more of the main guys," Smith said. "They miked up Fred [Taylor] several times but he really didn't get the exposure, nor did Marcus [Stroud]. That was the feedback I got from fans and people that watched the show, that they wanted to see more of the guys.

"I even took the entire crew out on my boat with some of the rookies for a day, but none of that got on the show. But still, overall, they did a pretty good job."

Prep coverage in full force: The Raines at White football game tonight draws added coverage with local Comcast coverage (Channel 57) and on WZAZ (1400 AM) as the Game-of-the-Week. Comcast will air the game on a delayed basis at 7:30 p.m. starting next Wednesday and running through the following Tuesday each night at that time. …
