Kidnappers threaten to execute dad

The family of British hostage Kenneth Bigley held in Iraq by kidnapp-ers was waiting on tenterhooks today as the deadline for his murder loomed ever closer.

Mr Bigley and two Americans were seized in Baghdad on Thursday and threatened with death unless their abductors' demands were met.

Last night, relatives of the Briton made a desperate plea for his freedom, begging that he be allowed to return home "safe and sound".

Mr Bigley's brother Philip described Kenneth as "a loving and caring father" of son Craig, 33.

The Foreign Office issued the appeal to Arab media on the family's behalf as time was running out on the kidnappers' demands to free women prisoners allegedly held by coalition authorities.

Iraq has already said it will not bow to the terrorists' demands.

Philip said: "I'm here to speak on behalf of our mother, Lil, who's 86 and is too distressed and too confused to give this statement. …
