Peter taylor has hailed James Milner as "a tremendous talent" after he scored his first goal for the England Under-21s to take them a step nearer to the Euro 2006 finals.

The Newcastle United player was given licence to thrill in an attacking midfield role during the 2-0 win over Wales in a qualifier at Ewood Park.

And the 18-year-old made the crucial breakthrough inside the opening 60 seconds of the second period in which England produced a performance of greater assurance and quality than the first 45 minutes.

Super-sub Darren Bent added the second to maintain England's 100 per cent record from their opening three group matches.

Taylor said: "Milner is a very exciting talent. He had a very good second half after, for him, not such a good first half when a few things got away from him.

"He scored a very important goal for us. He seems older than what he is but he is a tremendous talent.

"For someone so young he is a very good player and I think it is a role that he could do well in. …
