Three benefit fraudsters have been ordered to repay Newcastle City Council pounds 6,000.

Sharon Smiles, of Overfield Road, North Kenton, failed to declare she had a partner living with her since September 2001.

Smiles, 30, admitted three charges of obtaining housing benefit and council tax benefit by false representation when she appeared at Gosforth Magistrates' Court earlier this month. She was fined pounds 400, and had to repay rent rebate of pounds 2,364.93 and council tax benefit of pounds 518.02.

Amanda Robinson, of Fulbrook Road, North Kenton, failed to declare she had started employment in April last year and was in receipt of both child credit and working tax credit since May last year.

Robinson, 35, admitted six charges of dishonestly failing to report a change in her circumstances when she appeared before city magistrates.

She was fined pounds 50 for each offence, totalling pounds 300. She also has to repay rent rebate of pounds 1,761. …
