Newcastle Eagles have a head start on their rivals this season ( because of a rule change and the way they coped with adversity last term.

That's the view of Eagles player-coach Fab Flournoy, who insists that the reduction in the number of non-work permit players allowed on each team from two to one has worked in Newcastle's favour.

The Springfield Honda-backed Eagles have bounced back from an opening night defeat at home by the Scottish Rocks to win their last four games, all of them on the road.

"The success that we have had so far is the product of what we went through last season," he said.

"We only really had one non-work permit player because Mo (Robinson) didn't really give us anything and Cisse arrived too late to do anything.

"So we got used to playing with only one non-work permit player when the rest of the league had two non-work permit players.

"But now the other teams in the league have got weaker through losing one of their non-work permit players while we have stayed the same. …
