Lights for the Love That Still Burns Bright

The shimmering Christmas tree which towers over passengers at Newcastle Central Station is a fixture of the city's seasonal celebrations.

For the past nine years, St Oswald's Hospice in Gosforth, Newcastle has given people the opportunity to sponsor a light on the tree, in memory of a loved one who has passed away, and also to attend a special service of remembrance.

Tens of thousands of people have gathered under the glowing tributes in the concourses of Newcastle Central and Berwick railway stations to quietly remember those who are no longer here.

And St Oswald's will continue this tradition this year, with simultaneous services taking place at the stations at 6pm on December 5.

Brian Bell, fundraising director, St Oswald's said: "Light up a Life is a special service and gives people the opportunity to come together at such a poignant time of year and remember their loved ones who have sadly passed away. …
