Partners unite to tackle crime

A PROJECT has been launched to crack down on violent crime in North Yorkshire.

North Yorkshire Police have teamed up with their partner agencies to create an Alliance Against Violence, which Assistant Chief Constable David Collins hopes will reduce violence across the county.

"Tackling violent crime remains one of our top priorities," he said.

"The idea is to encourage all agencies or groups with a vested interest to adopt a more co-ordinated approach to the way in which violence and disorderly behaviour are tackled.

"Crime figures show that violent crime has increased in North Yorkshire, although it must be said the majority of these crimes do not involve serious injury and many, such as harassment, do not involve injury at all," said Mr Collins.

At the end of June, violent crime in North Yorkshire showed an increase of 59pc.

By the end of September the increase stood at 22. …
