Bygate WI held its Annual General Meeting this month. Our meeting was very well attended with four new members as well as two visitors. The past year was reviewed, new committee members elected and we were all pleased when Annette Maddison agreed to continue her presidency of the group for another year.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday, November 2 at 7.30pm in Crosskeys Community Hall, Monkseaton, when Mrs Lesley Henderson will tell us about the work of the Toby Henderson Trust.


THE annual chairman's At Home was held in West End United Reformed Church when chairman Mrs Barbara Manley welcomed members and all guests from neighbouring federations.

This year we had some very special guests, the Lord Mayor Mr George Douglas and Mayoress Mrs Teresa Douglas, and the Deakin Unis Attwood from Brunswick Church, Newcastle.

The theme for the Guild Table this year is an invitation to a wedding, the first prize went to North Fenham, second prize to Chapel House, and third prize to Lemington. The individual competitions, a decorated hat for a wedding, was won by Mrs Irene Baxter, Two Ball Lonnen and Stanton Guild; second prize to Marian Johnson, Lemington; third prize Patricia Watson, Two Ball Lonnen and Stanton Guild.

The competition for a man's buttonhole was won by Mrs D Turner, Lemington Guild; second Mrs I Baxter, Two Ball Lonnen; third Pat Watson, Two Ball Lonnen and Stanton.

The competition for poetry and prose first prize to Mrs M Stobbart, Lemington; second prize to Mrs I Baxter, Two Ball Lonnen and Stanton; third prize to Mrs G Trotter, Chapel House.


THE September meeting of Heddon WI began with our monthly business and finance report.

We were then introduced by Mrs Rand to our speaker for the evening, `Sadie the Bra Lady'. …
