TV World Gathers for Tribute to Top Boss

Family, friends and colleagues were gathering this afternoon to celebrate the life and work of television executive Andrea Wonfor.

Around 500 people from all stages of Andrea's career are expected for the memorial service at St Nicholas Cathedral in Newcastle at 5pm.

Video messages from Sir Bob Geldof and former Channel 4 boss Michael Grade, who are both out of the country, will be played during the service.

Three screens have been set up in the cathedral to show the tributes and clips of Andrea's 40-year career at Granada, Tyne Tees, and Channel 4.

A family video will be shown at the end.

Her daughter Sam said: "They are really beautiful tributes to her as a career woman and as a mother and wife and it's absolutely what she deserved."

Andrea, 60, of Ingoe, Northumberland, lost her battle with breast cancer on September 10.

In his message, Sir Bob remembers the moment when his former wife Paula Yates received a phone call from Andrea offering her the job presenting The Tube. …
